  • Echo Lake Country Club 515 Springfield Avenue Westfield, NJ, 07090 United States (map)

For the Westfield Historical Society’s First Wednesday Luncheon series in November, guests are welcome to the luncheon at Echo Lake Country Club on Wednesday November 6th, 2024 beginning with check-in at 11:45am. Author, Michael Virgintino, will present on his book “Freedomland, USA - the American History Amusement Park”.

Mr. Virgintino’s Freedomland U.S.A.: The Definitive History book documents the entire story from conception to bankruptcy of one of the most innovative and beloved theme parks in America.

Freedomland U.S.A. was celebrated as the “Disneyland of the East.” While it survived only five seasons (1960-1964), to this day the park generates fond memories among baby boomers who enjoyed its American history-themed attractions.

Michael Virgintino began his career as a broadcast journalist with radio stations in New York City and nearby suburbs. As a marketing communications executive for several decades, he has directed corporate, nonprofit and product branding initiatives that rely on public relations, public affairs, corporate social responsibility, community relations and related strategies. Mike also is an historian who writes about diverse topics and provides communication services to historical sites and organizations.
