First Wednesday Luncheon: Preserving the Great Lawn in Rahway River Park

As part of the Westfield Historical Society’s First Wednesday Luncheon series Mr. Scott J. Aruta will present a talk on the Great Lawn in Rahway River Park on November 1st, 2017. The event will begin at 12PM at the Echo Lake Country Club, located at 515 Springfield Avenue, Westfield.

Mr. Scott J. Aruta, is a co-founder and President of “Friends of Rahway River Parkway”. His talk will cover the efforts to preserve the Great Lawn in Rahway River Park, one of Union Counties largest remaining Open Space, and protect it from neglect, over development and the degradation of its historic structures, bridges, wild life and river access.

Mr. Aruta is the owner of Shading System Inc., a specialty contracting company, and he lives on an Olmstead designed street that runs along a section of the Rahway River known as Jackson pond.

Those wishing to attend the luncheon may make a reservation by calling Mary at 908-233-2930, by noon Friday, October 27th, 2017. The luncheon fee of $35 (WHS members) or $40 (non-members) includes a three-course meal, coffee/tea, and gratuity. The luncheon fee may be paid at the door. Westfield Historical Society memberships will also be available at the luncheon.
